Prison Officer Found with Drugs Arrested

Drug Enforcement Unit officers took a 24 –year-old corrections officer from the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services into custody following the seizure of a quantity of dangerous drugs at his residence last Friday.

According to police, around 1 p.m., officers assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at the home of the corrections officer located at Caravel Road, Sunset Park and found just over two ounces of marijuana.

The officer who occupies the home was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court this week to be formally charged.

This arrest follows a similar incident of a corrections officer who was remanded to prison on July 5 after he was arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on drug-related charges.

Brandario Miller, 25, of Pastel Gardens appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes facing two counts of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply concerning an incident on July 3.

According to initial police reports, around 10 p.m. Drug Enforcement Unit officers acted on a tip and conducted a search of a law enforcement officer who had just arrived for duty at the Department of Correctional Services.

On June 30, a 45-year-old corrections officer was arrested after he was found with six ounces of marijuana at the Department of Correctional Services.

The officer in that matter, Logan Smith, 45, was arraigned last Friday.

He pleaded guilty to marijuana possession with intent to supply and was sentenced to one year in prison.
