Policeman Charged For Burglary, Beating Girlfriend

A police constable arrested early last week for allegedly beating his girlfriend to a pulp was on Friday arraigned in a Magistrates Court.

Police Constable 3218 Cedric Rolle who was stationed in Abaco at the time of the incident appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes in Court #8 on one count each of burglary and causing harm.

It is alleged that on Tuesday May 20 at about 9:40 p.m., the police officer broke and entered into the home of Onika Parks at Dundas Town, Abaco.

The officer who appeared in court today with his right hand bandaged, was also charged with causing harm as police allege that on the same day, time and place, he intentionally and unlawfully caused harm to Whitney Thomas.

According to initial police information, the woman was treated at Marsh Harbour Government Clinic where she was seen by doctors there but her injuries were so severe, that she was later flown to the capital for further medical attention.

Rolle was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges.

Magistrate Forbes informed him that because these are indictable offences, bail could not be granted at that level and bail was denied.

The officer was then remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons until the case proceeds via Voluntary Bill of Indictment on July 9.

Because he is a police officer, Magistrate Forbes sent orders to the prison to ensure that he receives additional security.

Rolle can apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
