Former Financial Secretary Dies

Former Financial Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Ehurd Cunningham has died.

Cunningham suffered from a heart condition and underwent a double bypass surgery this past Tuesday.

He died late Saturday evening.

Cunningham in January 2009 appointed to the post of Acting Financial Secretary.

He was a member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, as he held a Diploma in Financial Analysis and Policy from the International Monetary Fund Institute.

He was also a former Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Vice President: British American Insurance Company Limited, President: Britam Insurance Brokers and Agents, Director and CEO: Security and General Insurance Company, Secretary for Revenue: Ministry of Finance and served on numerous Boards in both the Private and Public Sectors.

In a press statement yesterday, Former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham described Cunningham as a dedicated man with an extraordinary work ethic.

“Ehurd endured a number of medical ailments in recent years but he always managed to work through them, coming out seemingly even stronger,” he said. “Sadly, we now mourn his passage.”

“The country is fortunate to have had such a dedicated public officer and a community servant in Ehurd Cunningham, who was also a dear friend and colleague to many.”

“On behalf of Delores and our children I express deepest condolences to his sons Michael and Marcus, and to his extended family. May he rest in peace.”

He retired from the Public Service in December 2012.
