“…And/Now…”- The Rough Cut

And/now:- I am told that – on seeing Death , Aaron Rolle screamed:- “Who is this coming in to my cell?”

Rolle, 20, died as a result of blunt force trauma at the Southern Police Station on February 8, hours after he was taken into custody for questioning in relation to armed robbery and escape allegations.

Constable 666-Roger Flickin Death responded:- “He won’t try that shit again…”

Freedom of speech is one hell of a thing/ it is surely one hell of a thing because any fool with time on his time and spit in his mouth can spew anything any damned view he wishes.

One such fool recently unburdened himself of what seems a torrent of the most god-awful foolishness – this as he weighed in against Amnesty International and its relentless fight for human rights, for life and for dignity.

The fool said:-I guess if police officers are shot and killed that would be a happy moment for Amnesty International.

The same fool indicates that it is his view that:- Amnesty seems to be attempting the influence of any subsequent Coroner jury.

There was some more of this kind of drivel.

Clearly, this is more than enough for this day.

In the meantime, Echo yet wails its’ today lament into my scornfully and perversely opened ears:- Morgan Wells is dead; and as you might now know, Mugs was one of my grand-children, daughter to one of my older children; grand-daughter to one of the Wells’ families; direct out-shoot from the lines of Edney and Isadora Burrows – that same coupling that produced ‘my girl’ Elizabeth – grand-mother to that same Mugs who – this Monday past- managed to be in that red-spot where THEY turn every tomorrow into yesterday.

And also, Echo yet wails its’ today’s truth:- The jury in the coroner’s inquest of Aaron Rolle found that his death was an ‘unlawful killing’. After deliberating for nearly four hours, the four women-one man jury returned with the verdict after being instructed by the acting corner to decide whether his death was lawful or unlawful.

Rolle, 20, died at the Southern Police Station on February 8, hours after he was taken into custody for questioning in connection with an armed robbery and escape. A pathologist’s report later concluded that he died from hemorrhaging and a ruptured intestine, caused by blunt force trauma to the chest.

And Echo bawls:- Aaron Rolle had multiple injuries at the time of his death, including two broken ribs, a ruptured intestine, hemorrhaging around the pancreas and left kidney, bleeding in the bowel and contusions on his lower back, shoulder blade and left clavicle – all caused by blunt force trauma. Rolle had bruises on the front of his thighs and an abrasion on his chest. Aaron Rolle died from hemorrhaging and a ruptured intestine, caused by blunt force trauma to the chest.

Rolle died after two liters of fluid drained into his abdominal cavity from a hole in his intestine. She said the puncture was not recent and occurred prior to him dying. Rolle had a yellow/green pus coating his liver, abdomen and bowel suggesting that he had the injuries for more than a few hours.

I am told that – on seeing Death mounted high his pale steed, Aaron Rolle screamed: – “Who is this coming in to my cell?”

Constable R.F. Death coldly and quickly responds: – “He won’t try that shit again…”

Aaron Rolle died from hemorrhaging and a ruptured intestine. He also had two broken ribs, bleeding in the bowel and contusions on his lower back, shoulder blade and left clavicle.

In truth and in fact, then, Aaron Rolle is as dead now as he was on the day before he chanced upon those men in uniform who may well have beaten him straight into Death’s cold hands.

So, that’s that for Aaron Rolle.

But since life is still for the living, I now press on with my now life-long fool’s errand in search of peace and justice in this blighted land that was bequeathed to a distressed myriad of Black bastards just like me.

As I do, I must take note of Amnesty International’s yeoman’s work in speaking truth to power all over the world.
God is great!

And in distress, suffering Echo whispers:-33-year-old Jamie Smith and 20-year-old Aaron Rolle died while detained at two different police stations in Nassau.

And as Amnesty International concludes: – [These] deaths highlight the urgent need for greater accountability for police abuses.

Amnesty also indicates: – Their deaths are the latest examples of alleged human rights abuses by police, including similar fatalities in police custody or alleged unlawful fatal shootings that have occurred in recent years.

Amnesty therefore found: – In the vast majority of the cases, those responsible [for human rights abuse] did not face justice.

And so and as Amnesty reports concerning the matter of death and police impunity:- “The continuous lack of justice for unlawful killings at the hands of the police shows that the authorities are not doing enough to ensure that investigations are thorough, independent, impartial and timely. Authorities in the Bahamas should seriously consider the establishment of an independent body to investigate police abuses and provide such an institution with sufficient resources. This would ensure not only greater efficiency in the investigations but would also help restore public confidence in the police force.”
Amnesty International also says it has documented a number of cases of human rights abuses by police officers, including unlawful killings, ill-treatment and excessive use of force during arrests and detentions. At least six people were reported to have been killed by police in disputed circumstances in 2012 and at least one man died in police custody, it said.

“The June 2012 the conviction of a police officer for the death in custody of Desmond Key in 2007 was a rare instance of the police being held to account where impunity is the norm,” said Amnesty.

The family of 18-year-old Brenton Smith who was shot dead by police in 2009 has not been so fortunate, said Amnesty in its statement.

A coroner’s inquest found that the police officer charged with his death had acted in self-defense.

His family rejected the verdict and pointed to a number of key facts disregarded by the jury which reportedly included relatives of serving officers, such as the fact that Brenton was unarmed, and that the pathologist¹s testimony stated that the entry and exit wounds were consistent with a person whose arms were down, said Amnesty.

And now – may Morgan Wells’ immortal soul rest in peace.
