Police Make $500K Drug Bust

More than $500,000 worth of suspected marijuana was seized by police as a result of a joint law enforcement operation on Exuma.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) along with police in Exuma, arrested three men ages 37, 34 and 27 for possession of a large quantity of marijuana on Monday, according to police.

According to reports, around 2:15a.m, authorities mounted a joint drug interdiction in Williams Town Exuma, where they conducted a search of an unoccupied house located along the shoreline and uncovered a number of crocus sack bags each containing large amounts of suspected marijuana.

Police saw three men running from the area and were able to capture and arrest them. The men were flown to New Providence for questioning.

A total of 511 pounds of marijuana were uncovered with an estimated street value of $511,000.

Briefing reporters at Odyssey Airport Monday night, DEU Chief Superintendent Samuel Butler said police believe this bust is part of a larger network.

However he noted that the DEU will remain relentless especially in the Exuma and Ragged Island area.

Investigations into this matter continue.
