PLP Convention Postponed

Progressive Liberal Party Chairman Bradley Roberts announced yesterday that the party’s November 2015 national convention has been postponed until April 2016.

According to Roberts, the convention committee has recommended that the convention be postponed and the party’s leadership has determined that the level of devastation caused by Hurricane Joaquin and the scope of recovery, rebuilding and restoration efforts require the full attention and focus of the government at this time.

“Bringing a measure of normalcy and comfort to the lives of the residents of the southern Bahamas and assisting them with rebuilding their lives and their communities are of paramount importance to the government at this time,” Roberts explained.

“Politics must necessarily and wisely take a secondary role to this critical national undertaking.”

Roberts said the PLP regrets any inconvenience caused to any of its supporters and the public as result of the convention’s postponement.

The new date for the national convention will be announced in the near future, but Roberts said it is projected to be held in April 2016.

He noted that the PLP will make a cheque presentation to the National Emergency
Management Agency this week to assist with the country’s ongoing hurricane relief efforts.

The PLP convention was previously scheduled for the first week in November.
