July Ends With Eight Murders – 11 Less Than Last Year’s Record

There was a dip in the number of homicides recorded this past July compared to the same period last year.

Last month, crime scene detectives rushed to the scene of eight killings, 11 less than what was recorded in July 2011.

The first murder occurred on July 2 in Exuma, that island’s first homicide for the year.

According to police reports, an altercation between 30-year-old Ricardo Rolle and his cousin turned deadly when Rolle was chopped multiple times about the body.

On July 6, 40-year-old Kelsey Johnson of East Street South was struck in his head with an object while walking through McCullough Corner.

A day later, police had wrestled two additional homicide investigations – one in New Providence, the other in Grand Bahama.

Twenty-two year-old Jerome Davis of Hospital Lane was killed early Saturday, July 7, 2012.

Police said a group of people got into a fight at a business establishment in the Westridge Shopping Centre. The altercation spilled over into the parking lot where Davis was fatally shot.

Later that day, police responded to reports of gunshots being fired in the area of Yeoman Wood, Grand Bahama.

When they arrived on the scene, they met the body of a fully clothed black male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body

He was later identified as 33-year-old Kirklyn Lightbourne.

Grand Bahama would also record the next two murders.

On July 11, police responded to reports of a man being stabbed in the Sunridge Road and Carissa Street.

Twenty-six-year-old Freeport resident, Calvin Stuart died in hospital a short time later.

The following morning, detectives headed to Bruce Avenue, Freeport where 27-year-old Rodnel Fils-Ame body had been riddled with gunshots.

Two days later on July 13, police back in New Providence had a murder and suicide investigation to deal with.

Thirty-three year old Casey Adderley of Cox Way was dead after being shot by a 22-year-old man, who subsequently shot himself.

The next murder would not come for another two weeks on July 27.

A domestic dispute ended with a 27-year-old man killing a 23-year-old mother of two.

According to police, the victim, identified as Kidley St. Breave of Quarry Mission Road, was killed during an altercation with her boyfriend.

The incident happened at the man’s Charles Vincent Street home.

The suspect contacted police to report the incident.

When officers arrived at the home, there was blood on the mattress and a pool of blood on the floor of the apartment’s rear bedroom.

Head of the Central Detective Unit Superintendent Paul Rolle told the Journal that the victim was killed with a household item.

The total homicide count now stands at 76 for the year.

Up to this same point last year, officers had 85such investigations on their hands.
