The Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) apprehended a 70 ft. Bahamian fishing vessel and three arrests were made for the violation of the Fisheries Act.
The vessel was intercepted approximately fifteen (15) nautical miles off Flamingo Cay in the Ragged Island chain with an undetermined quantity of undersized crawfish on board during routine boarding procedures.
The vessel and occupants were subsequently arrested by defense force marines and escorted to the Coral Harbor base on Friday and were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further processing.
The immigration status of one of the occupants found aboard the Bahamian fishing vessel is also under investigation.
According to the Department of Marine Resources the local crawfish season begins on August 1 and runs through March 31 of next year.
