The sixth murder in just about six days was recorded Wednesday afternoon after a 17-year-old was shot dead through Fowler Street.

Police reports indicated that the teen was playing a game of backgammon when he got into an altercation with one of the men who then fired several shots, hitting him and another man.

“Sometime shortly after 2:00 p.m. police received reports of a young man being shot through Fowler Street off East Street,” he said. “Responding officers arrived about midway through the corner and met a body lying on the southern side of the corner.

Our initial information is that the deceased was in the company of others when he was shot. He died on the scene.”

Family members scrambled to the murder scene yesterday where teenager’s body lay dead.

Sources close to the victim identified him as 17-year-old Aaron Turnquest, a resident of Quakoo Street.

Scores of police officials, family, friends and onlookers swarmed the tiny corner off East Street as crime scene investigators combed the scene for clues.

Close family friends told The Bahama Journal that Turnquest, who also goes by the name “Spy,” lost both his parents by the time he was just three-years-old and was raised by his grandmother and other family members.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Anthony Ferguson appealed to the public to contact the police have they have information on this murder.

“I wish to say at this moment that I would like for members of the public and who were around the deceased when this incident took place to provide us with all the information so we can bring closure into this matter,” he added.

While police said they have no motive into this latest murder just yet, area residents who wanted to remain anonymous are speculating as to what they think happened.

One said it was a random robbery gone wrong, while another believes this is the result of an ongoing gang war among residents through Quakoo, Milton and Fowler streets.

“I heard that he got shot for a cell phone,” a neighbourhood store owner said. “He comes in and out of there, but I don’t know him like that.”

“He’s been shot before,” another resident said. “He and his brother got shot before. His family moved him from around here but he keeps coming back.”

“People seem to want to kill all of them. This isn’t over. This is gang related and I know this isn’t over. Before the night is out whoever did that, they are going back for them. They already had a big shootout in that yard. In one month seven people were shot in that yard. The gunmen came on foot and ran through the other corner. They know this area well. Gang bangers through Milton, Fowler and Quakoo streets are just warring back and forth.”

Police say the second shooting victim was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) in a private vehicle. He collapsed in the Accident and Emergency Department.

Since last Friday, the country has practically recorded a murder every day.

ACP Ferguson said this is cause for everyone to be concerned.

“The police are doing all we can to serve the public and we expect people who can, to provide us with the necessary information to help us bring these matters to a close,” ACP Ferguson said.

Active investigations are ongoing into this matter.
