A 51-year-old Redland acres man became the fourth person to be murdered this week after he was gunned down just feet away from his home yesterday.

Family members have identified the victim as Owen Julius Hanna.

Hanna’s death bumps the country’s murder count to 82 for the year, investigators said.

Officer-in-Charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle said Hanna was killed shortly after 9:30 a.m. yesterday just off Sumner Street.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was involved in an argument with another man when he was shot multiple times about the body,” Superintendent Rolle told reporters while on the crime scene.

Police have confirmed that a 22-year-old suspect is assisting them with their investigations.

Neighbours insist they heard at least eight shots in the area around the time of Hanna’s death, Superintendent Rolle could not confirm how many times the victim was shot.

He said, however, that the victim was shot in the upper body.

Authorities said they are still trying to figure out just why Hanna was killed.

The victim’s mother, Althea Hanna, described the relationship with her son as strained, and it has been that way, she said, for a while.

Ms. Hanna, who spoke with the media just yards away from where her son’s body lie said, the last time she saw her son was about two days ago.

She admitted, though, that her son was “mixed up with the wrong crowd” and prayed for him every day because of that.

“I got a call while I was at work, Workers House, and I was told that my son was dead,” Ms. Hanna said as she bravely kept her composure.

“When I got here and saw the crime scene tape then I knew for sure he was gone. Today was the only day I did not cover him with prayer. I pray every morning and he is the first one I pray for. But I do know that he didn’t keep good company and that is why he and I kept our distance.”
While Bahama Journal records show that this homicide would make 83 for the year, Superintendent Stephen Dean insisted that the number was only 82.
