Three Arrested In $1.2M Drug Bust

Three men were brought to the capital by police yesterday after being found in possession of more than $1million worth of marijuana on Andros on Tuesday.

The men ages, 45, 40 and 34-years-old were arrested in the Cargill Creek area on board a 30-foot vessel.

“We estimate the weight of the marijuana to be some $1,200 pounds with a street value of $1.2 million,” Superintendent Samuel Butler, head of the Central Detective Unit said. “We again are happy to report that our collaboration, our intelligence – the efforts of officers definitely in high gear and that’s why you are seeing the amount of successes in terms of drug interdictions.”

Superintendent Butler said the suspects did try to resist arrest by ramming their vessel against the officer’s vessel.

“Because of the skillfulness of our captain and the law enforcement officers on board we were still able to interdict them,” he said.

He noted that police are still in the early stages of their investigation but he told reporters that he suspected that the drugs came into The Bahamas from Jamaica.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
