Ground breaking for the new state of the art hospital facility here in New
Providence could begin as soon as early 2024, revealing as much was Minister of
Health and Wellness Dr. Michael Darville who spoke with reporters on Monday
morning at the launch of the trained clinical nursing program.
“We went out to the international market to seek funding and I’m pleased to report
that we’re having a lot of positive feedback; and we believe that we have narrowed,
the possible financing down to two or three,” said Minister Darville.
Continuing he said, “Individual finances that are being discussed with the Ministry
of Finance and when the details with financing are completed, it will be my
responsibility as minister to notify the general public of where we are with the new
hospital here in New Providence.
“But I’m pleased to report things are moving as planned and, I’m excited that, we
have now found three we potential financiers”.
The new hospital is estimated to cost $300 million and will be situated on more
than 40 acres of land on Perpall Tract. Dr. Darville also revealing that
government is in its final stages of secure funding.
He said, “As I indicated in my budget communication, we have completed the
feasibility study for the hospital here in New Providence; we have done the
geotechnical work and all of the topographic studies.
“We’ve gotten approval from the Department of Environmental Health and the
Environment to ensure the land is secure for where we’re going to go.
“It’s on high ground, and because it’s on high ground, we believe that in times of
flooding we should be secure.
According to Minister Darville, The new hospital will be a specialty facility for
maternity, paediatric and adolescent care. It will also house a blood bank and
national morgue.
