Eleuthera Arts & Cultural Centre To Host Dance Workshop

Participants of the Eleuthera Arts and Cultural Centre (EACC) are refining their dance skills this week under the training of international dance instructor Kelvin Cooper.

Bahamian-born Cooper will lead a cross cultural dance workshop with eager students looking to be exposed to a variety of dance styles, including modern dance, Jazz, Afro-Caribbean, Caribbean, Latin and hip-hop.

The acclaimed dancer is a teaching artist at the Ailey Arts in Education and Community Program – an extension of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre NYC.

The EACC hopes that this workshop becomes a source of inspiration and creativity for its participants through the dance techniques they will be exposed to.

Programme Director Audrey Carey believes that this event will help attendees gain a greater understanding of dance and foster a spirit that will enable them to become better contributors to their communities.

Ms. Carey said another benefit of dance is that it is a fun and effective form of exercise and provides participants an avenue to stay fit and lose weight.

Participants aged nine and up are encouraged to register for the workshop.

A major sponsor for this event is the Stephen Terrell Memorial Foundation established to commemorate the life of 19-year-old Stephen Terrell Ingraham, who died suddenly on May 17.

The fund seeks to provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to take part in wholesome activities in Florida and Eleuthera during the summer break.
