COB Signs Memorandum

The College of the Bahamas (COB) in keeping with its commitment to advancing the institution in every way possible by supporting and driving national development…has this afternoon signed a memorandum of understanding with the Antiques Monuments and Museum Corporation of the Bahamas (AMMC).

The agreement according to COB’s President Dr. Rodney Smith is simply a formality since the relationships between the two have been years in the making, a relationship that will benefit not just its students but faculty as well.

“We will use this partnership to exchange academic information and material, publication, research databases and courseware. Share library resources such as research papers, indices, books and magazines on relevant subjects where possible and appropriate,” he said.

“We will also sponsor and conduct joint conferences, seminars, colloquia, training programs, workshops and other academic meetings on matters of mutual interest, provide lectures within the classroom and much more.”

AMMC Chairman Courtney Strachan was also very pleased to be signing the MOU as he stated the relationship is just as beneficial to the AMCC as it is to COB.

“This MOU provides the opportunity for AMMC to collaborate with the highest tertiary institution in the country on matters related to the advancement of Bahamian heritage,” Mr. Strachan said.

“Furthermore, this MOU provides an opportunity for the collaboration and the sharing of data research and information collected by AMC partners in the field of museum studies archaeology, historical preservation with the institution.”

He said it also allows AMMC offices to provide the soon to be university with professional officers to present lecturers in their field of specialty to COB’s students.

Mr. Smith thanked the AMMC for their diligent work and says work between the two will continue to be productive.
