GB Accident Leaves Pedestrian Hospitalised

Police in Grand Bahama have reported an accident that has left a pedestrian in stable condition.

According to police, on Wednesday around 5:30 a.m., police received information of a traffic accident that occurred on Coral Road in the area of GB Sports Complex, involving a white and yellow 2004 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 39-year-old resident of Coral Reef.

The driver was travelling north on Coral Road when he collided with a 47-year-old man pedestrian of Hudson Estates, who at the time was jogging in the same direction.

Police and EMS personnel responded, the victim was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital via EMS where he was admitted and listed in stable condition.

Police are actively investigating this matter.

Police are appealing to the general public to drive with caution and care and to be aware of pedestrians especially persons exercising on our streets.

Police are also appealing to persons who jog on our streets early in the morning or late at night to wear bright colored clothing and to be vigilant.

This latest accident follows a traffic fatality that occurred on the island on Sunday.

Officers said sometime around 2:00 Sunday morning, police received information of a traffic accident on Queens Highway and Yellow Pine Road.

Officers and EMS personnel responded to the scene that involved a red and black Suzuki XR 750 motorcycle driven by a man who was travelling west on Queens Highway and a green 2006 Honda Civic driven by a 49-year-old man who was travelling east on Queens Highway and turning south onto Yellow Pine Road.

The cyclist was pronounced dead by doctor from the Rand Memorial Hospital.

Sources have confirmed to the Bahama Journal that the victim is 27-year-old Keith Jamal McCartney.

The Journal also understands that he had one son.
Police are investigating this matter and are appealing to the general public to adhere to the traffic laws on the streets and for motorcyclists to wear their helmets.
