The search for the 21 -year- old French national who was a resident of
Quebec, Canada and was reported missing at sea on Monday ended
tragically on Tuesday.
Police in Exuma confirming late Tuesday afternoon that shortly after
2pm officers from the marine support unit discovered the lifeless body
of a caucasian male along the eastern shoreline near a business
establishment.
The local doctor visited the scene and pronounced him dead.
On Monday police reported that the 21-year-old went swimming with
another male tourist around 6pm (night fall) at a beach near their
vacation rental unit.
One of the men returned a short time later and reported to a nearby
business operator that his friend was trapped in rough waters and could
not be located.
Police officers conducted a grid search of the beach on Monday night
but were unable to locate the missing man.
Poor weather conditions hindered search efforts at sea.
Local weather forecasters had warned beach goers to exercise extreme
caution when entering the water because of strong winds generating high
waves and rip currents.
Police say the remains of the deceased were to be airlifted to New
Providence for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death as the
investigations continue.
There have been quite a number of drownings in the Exumas this year.
