Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with an armed robbery of a small hotel property on Paradise Island
Saturday, Head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle told the Journal yesterday.
According to Mr. Rolle, a group of men entered the establishment around 8:00p.m., Saturday where they robbed persons of watches and jewelry.
Three men and two women are believed to have been robbed in that attack.
Two of the suspects were arrested later Saturday evening, Mr. Rolle said, however, he added that police believe that as many as five people were involved in this incident.
Police recovered some Rolex watches and jewelry from the suspects caught.
“We believe that there are about two or three other people involved with this incident,” Superintendent Rolle said. “We appeal to family members if you see your relatives come home with an excessive amount of jewelry or cash, possibly Rolex watches we ask that you contact police.
“We ask you not to protect these individuals because you can find yourself as well being taken into custody and prosecuted.”
The United States Embassy just last month advised it citizens and residents visiting The Bahamas to be vigilant and on high alert as they move about New Providence noting a number of crimes against visitors that have occurred in areas frequented by tourists.
However, Superintendent Rolle said no visitors were involved in Saturday’s incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
