Sunday Swim Ends In Tragedy

Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old man drowned yesterday while swimming in waters near Sife Cove.

Sife Cove is a canal located just off Hanna Road.

The man was swimming along with a group of people around 3:15 Sunday afternoon when he went under water and resurfaced.

When his group realised that he never returned to the surface, a frenzy erupted and the group of Haitian nationals called for help from other relatives and residents in the nearby Haitian village.

Police were initially advised by residents in the area that a Haitian sloop had ran aground but upon arriving on the scene, officers were informed of the apparent drowning.

The man’s body was eventually recovered from the water, but responding officers saw no signs of life.

The man has since been identified as Wilnick Ajisnord, a resident of the nearby Haitian village.

Police continue to investigate a drowning incident that left a four-year-old boy dead.

The incident reportedly occurred Saturday afternoon at a apartment complex in the High Vista area just off the Eastern Road.

The child was swimming in a pool on the complex when the incident occurred.

Investigations continue into both these incidents.
