Retired ACP McCoy To Be Laid To Rest

A full military funeral service will be held today for the late retired Acting Deputy Commissioner Christopher Noel McCoy.

He died on March 26, 2013.

The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of God Auditorium on Joe Farrington Road.

His body was laid out in the foyer of the Paul Farquharson Conference Center at the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Headquarters yesterday.

Viewing his body was his family as well as Prime Minister Perry Christie, Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis, National Security Minister, Dr. Bernard Nottage among other Cabinet ministers.

Prime Minister Christie told reporters Mr. McCoy served with distinction and a police officer all officers can look up to.

“He was someone who was given the opportunity to serve at a very level in the police force regrettably not for as long as he ought to have but he served with distinction and he never ever allowed anyone to forget that he was a patriot and that his life was one of service to The Bahamas,” he said.

“Life is always difficult when you have to confront death especially when one has to do so unexpectedly. To his wife and children, this is one where it is difficult to say farewell especially because he still had service left in him. I want to say to the commissioner of police well done. Officers who served the people of The Bahamas ought to be respected even in death in the best possible way and with the highest honour and dignity befitting the service they gave.”

Prime Minister Christie said the presence of the senior command of the Royal Bahamas Police Force during his viewing of the body demonstrates a commitment to that principle and their high regard for their colleague.

“Officers give service in a special way and it is something we take for granted most times but on occasions like this we have to give focus to it,” he said.

Officiating at the service today will be Pastor Paul Scavella, Venerable James Palcious & Bishop Arnold Josey. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Gardens.

Mr. McCoy retired from the Police Force in 2009.
