In alignment with Commander of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force
Commodore Raymond King’s strategic vision to enhance the organization’s
security posture, ten Marines from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force
(RBDF) completed a two-week radio training course on August 23, 2024, at
HMBS Coral Harbour.
The RBDF said it is committed to exploring advanced technologies by
implementing professional training that will enhance the organization’s
agility and strengthen its capabilities.
During the training, participants gained in-depth knowledge of the Harris
RF-7800H-MP radio and the multiband 7850-M-HH handheld radio.
The course, led by Mauricio Jimenez and Delano Henery of L3 Harris
Technologies, covered programming techniques using ' Tactical
Chat' and ' Communication and Planning' applications,
enabling personnel to effectively operate and trouble shoot these radios in
the field.
Participants were also introduced to the different operational modes of the
radios, including VULOS, Quicklook, and ANW2C, which allowed for the
transmission and reception of not only radio messages but also voicemail,
images, and video in real time.
Additionally, the course provided instruction on various waveforms,
including the 3G ALE Fix on the Harris RF-7800H-MP, and emphasized the
importance of selecting the appropriate antenna, such as the Dipole NVIS,
to overcome distance and signal disruption challenges.
The training also underscored the necessity of operating the radios in an
encrypted setting (cipher text) to ensure secure communication and
prevent unauthorized data access.
