Prison Yard Fight Leads To Stabbing – Inmate Taken To Hospital

A prison inmate could soon be facing further criminal charges after he allegedly stabbed another inmate about the body during a prison yard fight Tuesday.

Prison Superintendent Dr. Elliston Rahming told The Bahama Journal on Wednesday that the matter has since been turned over to the police whom he said are looking to press charges.

“Yesterday morning a group of inmates were in the exercise yard in the Maximum Security section when a fight broke out among the inmates,” he said. “One had in his possession a homemade joker which he used to stab another inmate.”

The prison head said officers intervened and broke up the fight.

He added that the injured inmate was first treated by doctors at the Fox Hill compound and then taken to hospital.

Anonymous prison sources said the inmate was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but Dr. Rahming said he is now in stable condition.

He added that prison officials met with the mother of the injured inmate about the matter yesterday morning.

Just months ago prison officers expressed grave concern about a brewing gang war taking place in the prison.

They said this latest incident is evidence that a gang problem exists on the compound.
