Police Discover Marijuana Plants in GB

Police in Grand Bahama made a huge discovery over the weekend after finding several marijuana trees in a large plot on the island.

According to reports, the discovery of the 30 marijuana trees was initially made on Friday during an early afternoon patrol in east Grand Bahama on the northern side of the Grand Bahama Highway.

On Saturday, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emerick Seymour led a team of officers back to the area, including officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) where the trees were removed from the site.

According to the police, the trees ranged in height from one foot to 11 feet.

No arrests were made but DEU officials are continuing their investigations and are following several leads.

Meanwhile back in New Providence, in three separate incidents, DEU officers removed illegal drugs from the streets of New Providence.

In the most recent incident, around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday DEU officers, acting on information conducted a search of a residence at Jasmine Gardens and discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana.

Three people – ages 32, 53 and 22 years – were taken into custody.

Just after 10:00 p.m. Friday, two men – ages 22 years and 24 years were arrested after DEU officers conducted a search of their silver Nissan Altima and discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana.

DEU officers arrested the suspects at the junction of Solider Road and Prince Charles Drive.

The men are residents of Golden Gates and Nassau Village respectively.

In another incident, shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Friday, DEU officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a property at Amos Ferguson Street off East Street, where they discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana.

No arrests were made in connection with that incident.

Active police investigations into all these matters continue.
