The issue of migration and illegal immigration took center stage at a panel discussion on “Understanding The Complexities of Migration Management ” during day four of Diplomatic Week held at the Grand Lucayan Resort in Freeport, Grand Bahama.  Immigration Minister the Hon. Sears (centre) served as a panelist for the discussion, along with Her Excellency Gezel Farrington, Ambassador-at-Large for Human Rights (photographed at left) and Ms. Zahrah Jibrilu, Project Officer, International Organization for Migration (photographed at right).  Other panelists included His Excellency Dennis Zulu, UN Resident Coordinator for The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos and Jamaica; His Excellency Dr. Ellison Rahming, Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba; and Mr. Crispin Hall, of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

‘No Cholera After Dorian’

The Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) advised that no islands in The Bahamas are under quarantine and there are no outbreaks of cholera following Hurricane Dorian.  “Floods can potentially increase the transmission of water-borne and communicable diseases. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced yesterday that 3,500 residents affected by Hurricane Dorian were evacuated. The majority of the evacuees are from Abaco.
