The Free National Movement (FNM) called Wednesday morning’s Budget Communication presented by Prime Minster Perry Christie, exhausting, dull and unimaginative.
Immediately following an almost three hour reading by the prime minister, the FNM responded saying the budget was not for the Bahamian people, trite and overall disappointing.
Speaking on behalf of the opposition was the deputy leader for the party, Peter Turnquest who reiterated the parties’ sentiments.
Mr. Turnquest also held that the majority of the proposals given were nothing more than empty election promises.
Moreover the fact that the economy despite what Prime Minister Christie may have said has been decreasing for the past two years according to the opposition and should not be ignored
Also briefly giving remarks was the leader of the opposition Dr. Hubert Minnis who reiterated that he and his party holds that Bahamians deserve honesty, better and they deserve results, none of which they felt were offered by the budget communication.
The FNM furthermore found the confirmed agreement document between the government and Chinese officials as it relates to the completion of the billion dollar Bah Mar resort project by Prime Minister Perry Christie during the Budget Communication unimpressive.
Deputy leader and shadow Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest stated that the letter that was offered as evidence of progress on the matter was not a letter of true action and quite frankly insignificant.
The opposition explained that this further depicts weakness within the Progressive Liberal Party (PL) and that there has been clear mismanagement of those persons sent to conduct negotiations.
Mr. Turnquest also brought forth the fact that there were a number of important matters that the budget communication did not address.
The budget debate is expected to continue Wednesday June 8th
