Nearly 40 Immigrants Apprehended

Immigration officers apprehended nearly 40 illegal Haitian immigrants from throughout the Family Islands over the weekend.

According to officials from the Immigration Department, officers rounded up 14 Haitians in Mayaguana after being alerted by the island’s police.

The 12 men and two women were flown to the capital and later taken to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.

In addition, officials who were stationed in Eleuthera also made arrests after they spotted what appeared to be a Haitian sloop.

The officers combed the Rock Sound area and discovered 19 Haitian immigrants – 18 men and one woman.

Meanwhile, Abaco officials transported six Haitian nationals –four men, one woman and one child – to New Providence for processing. The group was in the country illegally.
