Man Charged With Store Owner’s Murder

A 24-year-old man was charged with murder yesterday.

Charlton Williamson was arraigned before Magistrate Constance Delancey for the April 6th murder of Paul Butler.

The incident took place in the area of Yellow Elder.

Police alleged that Butler, who was a proprietor at a local convenience store on Melvern Road, was approached by a lone gunman unknown to him, who then shot him, took his cash and proceeded to flee on foot.

Butler’s murder was described by police as a “senseless killing”, as he was very well liked person in his community.

Williamson was also charged with armed robbery in relation to the incident for robbing Butler of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Butler’s murder was the 35th for the year.

Williamson was not required to enter a plea and was denied bail.

He has been remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until he returns to the Supreme Court on September 28th for a voluntary bill of indictment.
