Twenty-two-year-old Stanley Telfort Francois was on Monday arraigned before Acting Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt for the August 19 murder of a bus driver and the attempted murder and armed robberies of two of his passengers.

According to court dockets, on that day Francois, intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of bus driver and father of one Gregory Adderley.

Prosecutors alleged that on the same day, he attempted to kill a male passenger on that bus.

Francois, a resident of Peter Street, is also accused of the armed robbery of that passenger where he robbed the man of $50 cash and a female passenger of a beige and brown Land pouch valued at $50, a driver’s license valued at $20 and $50 cash.

Francois was not required to enter a plea to the charges.

However, his lawyer Tecoyo Bridgewater told the magistrate that he wants the prosecution and officials in the Attorney General’s Office to look further into the matter, as based on information he has received, witnesses have already identified another man as the attacker and not his client.

Bridgewater reminded the acting chief magistrate that justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done.

He said the police have to further investigate this matter and not be one dimensional in their approach.

The attorney expressed confidence that his client will be taken to Her Majesty’s Prisons and that in a few months, the police will arrest the real suspects.

The magistrate then told Bridgewater that the role of the police is different from that of the Attorney General’s Office and the judiciary and noted that, as outlined in the Constitution, only the attorney general can discontinue court proceedings.

She then asked Prosecutor Clifford Daxon to review the file and make the necessary determinations.

The case heads back to court in December for the presentation of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.
