Hung Jury In Murder Trial

A 12-person jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict on robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery charges against 49-year-old Daphne Knowles however they were unable to reach a verdict on the first count of murder resulting in a hung jury.

Represented by attorney Sonia Timothy, Knowles was formally charged with, one count of murder, one count of robber and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Following some four hours of deliberations the jury returned with a 7-5 guilty verdict on the murder charged and two unanimous guilty verdicts on counts two and three.

Senior Justice Bernard Turner accepted the verdicts on the last two counts and requested a probation report before he could provide appropriate sentences for those offenses.

The Crown represented by Cephia Pinder-Moss and Basil Cumberpatch were asked whether they would retry Knowles on count one but will give their answer to that question on the 8th September, 2016.

The jury was reminded before their private deliberations to remain detached, objective and clinical.

Justice Turner also told the group that there will and should be no sympathy or prejudice for the defendant, the deceased nor the witnesses brought forward.
Knowles is allegedly responsible for the November 28th 2014 murder of Andrea Carroll in Deadman’s Cay, Long Island.

Carroll who was the manager of Bowe’s Web was also robbed of $68,000 and found dead with her hands and feet tied in her home.

The deceased was 53.

Knowles was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services to await sentencing on the 8th of September, 2016.
