Free National Movement (FNM) candidate for North Abaco Greg Gomez claims that he is one of many Bahamians who were victimised under the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Government and that winning the island’s upcoming bye-election would not just mean a victory for him, but a victory for those people.
“Yes I have been victimised,” he told reporters just after nominating yesterday to run in the October 15 bye-election.
“I made application to Local Government. I was recommended to be an island administrator and the Right Honourable Hubert Ingraham sanctioned my application. After the May 7 General Elections, the PLP thought otherwise. But I want the people to know there are many of you out there who have been victimised. I have decided to stand and the people of North Abaco have decided to stand with me.”
But Prime Minister Perry Christie said that claim makes no sense.
“How I am I victimising them? I just got here,” he said. “Could someone tell me how am I victimising them and who I am doing it with? The FNM should know that is not my interest at all. I don’t see how you can come into a community that you want to win and try to win by victimisation. You lose votes that way.”
“Tell them that the battle has just started. Don’t cry now.”
FNM Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis said he has compiled a list of individuals who claim they were victimised.
He has promised to have them represented in court.
However, he has not said how many people are on that list or when they are expected to go to court.
