Executive Manager, Over-the-Hill Development Named

Samita Ferguson has been appointed Executive Manager of the Over-the-Hill Development Unit (OTHDU) within the Office of the Prime Minister. Mrs. Ferguson’s appointment exemplifies the resolve of the Prime Minister to institute the resilient leadership of a community builder for the continued implementation of the Over-the-Hill Development Partnership Initiative (OTH Initiative).

Mrs. Ferguson possesses over 20 years of management and leadership experience garnered at the Royal Bank of Canada and a prominent retail business. Through her extensive work, she has led dynamic teams, networked with the community, and oversaw daily operations. Most notably, at both institutions, she developed and executed marketing strategies to increase each institution’s customer base. For the implementation of the OTH Initiative, Ms. Ferguson’s experience will serve purposeful by helping to expand the operations of the OTH Initiative, grow satisfaction among OTH residents, and disseminate information to the public.

She continues to excel as a community builder through involvement in numerous community-based initiatives from initiating a Customer Care Program for R.B.C, participating in the Ministry of Education Religious Primary School Workshop, speaking at Women and Youth Conferences, to creating C.H.A.M.P.S. – a nonprofit empowerment group for young women that has initiated sub-groups within D.W. Davis Junior High School and on Grand Bahama.

Mrs. Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications (BA) from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. During her university tenure, she was an executive member of the Student Government Association for four consecutive years and a pilot student for the Semester in Europe Program, where she studied for a semester at Lee University in Cambridge, England.

Currently, Mrs. Ferguson is the President of the Parent Teacher Association of Queen’s College and serves on the Public Service Commission.

Mrs. Ferguson’s personal mantra aligns with the OTH Initiative – to change the paradigm of an individual, use the arts and educational tools to bring reform, and empower people to be agents of change.

The OTH Initiative aims to transform and revitalize inner-city communities by creating a sense of ownership, belonging, and pride among OTH residents. 

Six key initiatives, aligned with the 2030 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, guides the OTH Initiative – Social Empowerment, Economic Empowerment, Rejuvenation, Green Technology, Smart Technology, and Youth & Elderly social interventions.
