Duo Charged With West Bay Armed Robbery

The two alleged armed robbers who sent police on a high speed chase through western New Providence earlier this week were on Wednesday arraigned in a magistrates’ court on armed robbery charges.

Fifty-six-year-old Jeffrey Wilson, of Thurston Court, Oakes Field who also goes by the name “Capone” and 19-year-old Laron Grant of Malcolm Road are accused of robbing a man at Scotiabank on West Bay Street.

Police allege that the duo, while armed with a handgun robbed Hong Qiuke of $12,500, which belongs to Golden House, West Bay Street.

They were also arraigned on another armed robbery count.

It is alleged that the men robbed the same man of a black purse that had $600 in Chinese currency, $500 in cash, a Scotiabank Visa debit card and a Bahamian drivers licence valued at $20.

Wilson and Grant were also accused of stealing and a receiving a $7,500 white 1998 Honda vehicle between August 16 and 17. The car belongs to Donnell Ferguson.

The men were not required to plea to the armed robbery charges and the case will proceed via a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

As for the stealing and receiving charges both men pleaded not guilty and were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP) until the VBI is handed down on November 19 at 10:00 a.m.

During the arraignment both Wilson and Grant alleged police brutality.

Wilson said since being arrested he has had to get stitches in his head; he told Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez, “I was beaten half to death.”

The judge ordered that both men see the prison doctor.
