Free National Movement (FNM) Elizabeth MP Dr. Duane Sands was sworn in to the senate this for a second time Monday in a ceremony at Government House, on the heels of the resignation of Senator Latisha Rolle.

Addressing detractors that say Senator Rolle’s resignation embodied the dysfunction within the party, Sands says whatever he can do in his power to strengthen the party he will.

“I’m a team player and the team that I support and the team I play point for is the Free National Movement so whatever I can do to solidify this team,” Mr. Sands said.

Sands said he is feeling much more confident this time around because of the demand facing sincere politicians within the country going into battle for the people of The Bahamas.

“I must admit that I feel somewhat differently now than I did the first time and I think it is response to the tremendous load facing sincere politicians going to battle for the people of The Bahamas,” Mr. Sands said.

“You cannot enter the legislative arena without feeling the overwhelming sense of need of a struggling Bahamian people, as I come into the senate again, it is understood that the people of the Bahamas are hoping that things are going to be different and is there going to be a real change.”

Sands says that he is fully committed to serving the people of The Bahamas and plans to work as hard as he can in bring about real change within the country.

“You have to ask am I worthy and able to live up to the task, I intend to give it my very best I intend to work very hard and I intend to commit my services to the requirements of the Bahamian people and nothing else,” Mr. Sands said.

The former deputy chairman of the FNM also served as a senator in the last Ingraham administration, however he unsuccessfully ran for the FNM’s deputy post at the party’s convention in 2014.
