Defence Officer Charged

A 23-year-old Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Officer was officially arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on gun possession charges.

According to police, St. Vincent Road resident Philip Adderley and 22-year-old man, Steven Whyms of Blackston Avenue, were found in possession of a black 9mm pistol and five live rounds of ammunition on Monday.

Both men pleaded not guilty and were granted bail $10,000 each.

The matter was adjourned to 23 October 2014 and will he heard in Court Number One.

Seven other men were also arraigned on gun charges yesterday.

In the most recent bail statistics, State Minister for Legal Affair Damien Gomez revealed that so far this year, 85 gun and ammunition suspects applied for bail. Twenty-five were granted while nine were denied.
