Convicted Killer Sentenced to 40 Years

The family of a brutally murdered man said that they can now be at peace after the man convicted of murdering their loved one was sentenced in a Supreme Court.

On Monday, Lathario Miller, the man convicted of the shooting death of Marco Smith was sentenced to forty years in prison for the incident that occurred over 5 years ago.

The particulars are that in September of 2010, the deceased along with a female passenger identified as Otishka Gibson drove into the market street area to meet Miller in an attempt to collect money he had owed Smith.

The two got into a heated discussion which lead to Smith leaving the area and driving to a residence in the Ridgeland Park area.

Miller, who followed smith on his bike, approached him from behind and shot him several times including in the neck, shoulder and in the back of his head.

Smith was pronounced dead on the scene.

Moments after, miller fled the scene via his bicycle.

In court back on July 29th, Miller’s attorney Roger Thompson asked Justice Ian Winder to be lenient with Miller taking into consideration that he lost his parents at a young age and grew up a very troubled boy.

He also mentioned that Miller took responsibility for his actions and even told the court that he regretted them.
Prosecutor Quintin Percentie however, did not believe that Miller was at all remorseful.

Mr. Percentie in his submissions stated that Miller could be sentenced to life imprisonment but ended his submissions suggesting a forty-five year sentence term.

Miller will spend thirty-six years in prison.

The four years that he spent remanded were deducted from his sentence which begins today.
