Making history on Tuesday, Cabinet was convened in Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama.
Cabinet ministers gathered in the newly opened Obadiah H. Wilchcombe building to focus on the
$1.5 billion in new investments for the island.
Cabinet addressed the creation of job opportunities and infrastructure redevelopments, but some
political pundits were skeptical of the historic first.
Critics, including the Free National Movement accused the Davis administration of performing
political stunts for votes ahead of the by-election.
Prime Minister Davis recently spoke out rebuffing the claims.
“The pundits, political pundits out there, they’re just baffled. They just can’t understand how we
are able to achieve what we are achieving, particularly after how they left the country. They left
the country in a mess and so they are baffled. How is he able to do these things? But we are,”
Davis said.
Cabinet ministers also addressed the expansion of the Grand Bahama Shipyard, a new eco-resort
in West Grand Bahama, pending road works and needed redevelopments. Despite the discussions
on real improvements for Grand Bahama, critics are still labelling the move on Tuesday a
gimmick.
In response, Prime Minister Davis said this was not a gimmick.
“I don’t play political games. Nothing is gimmicky for me. I care about people and I’m not going
to play with the lives of people. Let’s just wait and see. It’s not unlike when they said that Baha
Mar will never open and that when we opened it that it was a fake opening. And now what is
happening? It’s flourishing,” the prime minister said.
He backed his decision to move Cabinet to Eight Mile Rock on Tuesday excited to usher in what
he calls “an economic revival.”
