For a second time in less than a week New Providence residents Sunday were left to battle sweltering temperatures as a result of an island-wide black out.
Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) said initial investigations reveal that yesterday’s outage was the result of a major cable fault which shut down generation, transmission and distribution networks on the island.
“Following an initial investigation, crews began restarting the failed engines and incrementally restoring supply to impacted communities,” BPL said in a statement.
Some residents were without power for most of the afternoon, but by last night BPL reported that power had been fully restored.
Last Monday, an island-wide blackout left thousands across the island without power in the blistering heat.
BPL has apologized for the outages and assured that while neither outage was caused by a lack of generation capacity, it is looking at all areas of its operation to improve system reliability.
