Bahamian Entertainer Passes- T’rez Hepburn Gone To Soon

The woman behind great local hits like “Oh Do You Know,” “Mr. Bus Driver” and “You Gon’ Talk It” passed away Friday, marking the end of what many have described as a great musical career in Bahamian history.

Hepburn passed away around 8 o’clock Friday evening at Doctor’s Hospital following a massive stroke, according to a family spokesman.

It was reported that the popular singer and mother of one son suffered severe brain damage and swelling following the stroke.

The family’s attorney Obie Pindling, issued the following statement:

“It is with great sadness that, on behalf of her family, I have to inform you that Bahamian superstar M. Therese (T’rez) Hepburn passed away earlier this evening at Doctor’s Hospital. Her mother, family and close friends were at her bedside. She was 48 years old.”

The news of her death spread like wildfire this weekend reaching social media outlets like Facebook not long after she was pronounced dead.

Although T’rez would be put in a class with the likes of other female entertainers like Sweet Emily, Nita, Novie, Sparkle and Spice, T’rez’s music touched the lives of many other young entertainers like Sammuel Sammi Star Poitier, who took to Facebook and expressed great sadness about her loss.

“Man I can’t believe it (sigh). This is so sad. I will, we will, definitely miss our Icon, T’rez Hepburn. She taught me so much. She was a great friend and supporter of my career in every sense. I will miss her so much. Rest in peace my friend. May God be with your family and loved-ones. See you in heaven,” said Poitier.

Radio personalities like GEMS 105.9 FM’s Shema Poitier also took to Facebook to talk about the songstress.

“Rest in peace T’rez. You brought much laughter and entertainment,” Poitier said.

The Ministry of Tourism’s website describes the artist as one of, if not the top female recording and performing artist in The Bahamas.

Her first 12-inch single “Oh Do You Know”, the website said, became number one helping her earn a Peoples’ Choice Best Music Cacique Award for Best Female Recording Artist and also Best Overall Entertainer.
