Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. Daniel Johnson has predicted that there will be an economic boom for sports tourism, as The Bahamas will once again host the IAAF World relays in 2015.
“We are going to have world relays next year, we go to Monaco in November to do the final signings but we have the approval from all the parties to proceed so we will get everything done within a month or so but we are on for 2105 that’s going to be one of a series of major events for sports tourism for next year,” he said.
He added that an impact survey on the event would be released in two weeks.
Dr. Johnson’s comments came during a recent interview with reporters outside of Cabinet.
Back in May, The Bahamas hosted the sporting event and nearly 1,000 athletes from around the globe attended.
The event was hailed as a huge success.
The historical HBCUX Classic football game held last week was also dubbed a success.
Central State University Marauders from Ohio and Texas Southern University Tigers were in the country for the competition show down.
Dr. Johnson said that Bahamians could expect to see more American football games hosted in the country.
“We continue to expand our sports and paradise brand to the world, we’re taking it to the historically black colleges and universities in the United States so we had a fabulous weekend in the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium, we tested ourselves for American football and the test proved positive, it is fantastic,” he said.
“We’re getting prepared for more football events and we’re getting ready for next year which is going to be huge.”
