On October 19 the New Providence Martial Arts and Fitness Centre, led by instructors Sensei Chin and Sensei Evans traveled with a team of 13 young Bahamians to compete in the Miami Taikai Karate Tournament where they placed in the top three.
The NPMAFC was invited by Sensei Luis Sanchez, director of Miami Taikai to participate in the one-day competition, which was held at the Double Tree Inn Convention Center.
The event hosted athletes and referees of the Florida, Pan-American and world level. It also provided a fair and just event as well as advanced level of competition.
“The team of 13 did extremely well”, according to Sensei Chin.
“While none of our kids won their divisions, many of our young competitors placed in the top three of their divisions. In total we returned home with a total of 13 trophies in all,” she said.
“From the NPMAFC we would like to congratulate all of our competitors on their achievements and commend them on such good behavior. They represented their country well” said Sensei Chin.
The NPMAFC team comprised: Miles Ferguson; Nkume Ijeoma, Jadyn Munnings, Chianna Diggiss, Khory Moss, Charles William Diggiss, Chigozie Ijeoma Jr, William Knowles, Casey Myles Scavella, Kyle Moss, Nathaniel Woodside, Joshua Dames and Sy Laroda accompanied by Sensei Chinyere Ijeoma-Chukwuka and Sensei Roland Alexander Evans III.
