A 51-year-old man of Lightbourne Avenue is in custody after he was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday, police have said.

According to reports, shortly before 6:00 p.m., mobile division officers were on patrol on Graham Drive off Yellow Elder Way, when they stopped the suspect in a Nissan vehicle on suspicion of dangerous drugs.

As the officers approached the suspect’s vehicle on foot, the suspect attempted to knock one of the officers down and sped off.

Following a short pursuit, the officers caught up with the suspect and took him into custody for possession of dangerous drugs and assault with a deadly weapon.
He is expected to be formally charged in connection with this incident in the coming days.
