Nineteen people were murdered last month, tying last July’s number.

On May 3, police had three murders on their hands – all occurring in New Providence.

The first incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. at a home on Sumner Street, Nassau Village.

Forty-six-year-old Ricardo Rolle was at his home when he was shot to death.

The second incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Thirty-one-year-old Kemar Watkins, a resident of Highland Drive, Summer Haven was walking on Cambridge Lane, South Beach when a gunman approached him and shot him several times.

The last incident occurred less than three hours later at 10:35 p.m on Baillou Hill Road off Cowpen Road. A woman got into an altercation with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Alden Gibson and allegedly stabbed him multiple times.

The murders continued just after 11:00 p.m. on Election Day – May 7, which left a mother and her son dead.

“The report we got was that the PLP was having a motorcade and people apparently started throwing stones where a young girl was hit,” Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle told the Bahama Journal at the time.

“The young girl apparently went to her home where she told her mother about the incident. The mother came out when she was approached by four men in a car. The mother was shot in the back and the car ran over her.”

Forty-three-year-old Brigid Williams died at the scene.

Her son, 22-year-old Rashad Williams followed the car which ended up crashing into a wall crushing his body.

Two days later, police had three additional investigations on their hands.

Just after midnight on May 9, police were called to St. James and Kemp Roads.

Police said 28-year-old Dean Webster was shot to death by some people in a black Honda. He died in hospital.

Later in the day, police were left investigating two separate fatal shootings that occurred less than an hour apart.

Around 3:20 p.m. 30-year-old McKeno Brown was at the home of a family member on Sugar Apple Street, Pinewood Gardens when a man hopped out of his car, approached Brown and started arguing with him.

Brown was shot multiple times to the body when he tried to run away.

Around 4:30 p.m. police said 28-year-old David Marshall was at a car wash on Baldwin Avenue and Eden Street with a group of men, when they were approached by some people in a dark coloured car.

The culprits fired gunshots at Marshall who was hit about the body.

The following day, police found the body of 19-year-old Kayvonna Miller in bushes at the rear of a new housing development on Poinciana Drive in Pinewood Gardens.

Two days later, 28-year-old Heuton Lloyd was shot multiple times by a man on Key West Street just south of Cordeaux Avenue.

On May 14 police in Grand Bahama had a stabbing death on their hands.

That incident occurred in the Pinedale area of Eight Mile Rock that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Peter Beneby.

Officers from the Eight Mile Rock division were called to the scene around 10:15 p.m. where Beneby’s body was found with stab wounds to the upper right back.

He was the island’s fifth homicide victim for the year.

Back in New Providence, shortly after 11:00 p.m., police reported that 33-year-old Lavardo Dean had just arrived at a home on Goggle Eye Road off Soldier Road when a gunman approached him and shot him to death.

Three murders were recorded on May 19, pushing the count, at that time, to 57 for the year.

The body of 19-year-old Macksony Sinus was found in a pond behind the National Insurance Board’s (NIB) building on Baillou Hill Road while 26-year-old Pillario Simmons died in hospital.

Simmons was shot multiple times on Meadow Lane off East Street on May 18.

Thirty-one-year-old Jeremiah Williams died later that day after being stabbed in the parking lot of the Independence Shopping Centre.

On May 26, 39-year-old Olsworth Bell died in hospital after being shot the previous day on Joe Farrington Road.

Homicides 59, 60 and 61 occurred on May 29, 30 and 31 respectively.

On May 29, 21-year-old Cordero Findley was gunned down at the Baller’s Nightclub on East Bay and Mackey Streets. Seven other people were also shot during that incident.

On May 30, a man was fatally shot on First Street off Robinson Road just after 11:00 p.m. He has yet to be identified by police.

The last incident for the month took place late Thursday while 55-year-old Reserve Constable Dennis Clarke was at Superwash on Prince Charles Drive. He was shot multiple times while standing in the Laundromat’s parking lot.

Police said his death was a result of a botched robbery.

The homicide count is now at 62.
