Restoration efforts  in Ragged  Island continue,  as the water is finally back up and running.  The once vacant island now has 63 persons that reside there permanently after Hurricane Matthew last year  and  the residents are now preparing for  another  “active” hurricane season.

The Free National Movement’s Women’s Association says that any donations, building supplies and anything to aid in repairs is appreciated and that  the few but committed Bahamian people that reside on the striving island needs everything that they can get for this upcoming hurricane season. 

2017 was perhaps the country’s most destructive and life changing hurricane season for most, as  homes were ripped to shreds; southern islands were left uninhabited and school and government buildings were destroyed. 

The government buildings on  Ragged Island have  been assessed, but there has been no work done as yet  to repair them. 

The women’s association gathered  yesterday  to present Ragged  Island resident, Alvin Munroe with three thousand blocks that were sponsored by a donor to help rebuild his home that was destroyed during last hurricane season.

Betty Benoit- President of the FNM Women’s Association, Melissa Allen Maynard- Chairperson for Fundraising, Sheena Culmer- Vice President all gave remarks on what a wonderful job they are doing in the rebuilding and restoration of the island.

The association is not only focusing on  the Ragged Island restoration project, they are now focusing heavily on senior citizens and their many needs;  as senior citizens in homes are constantly neglected by family members and left alone for long periods of time. Their aim is not only to provide them with food and adult wear, but with time and care.
