The U.S. Government’s partial shutdown will not affect operations at the United States (US) Embassy here in Nassau.
According to Embassy Spokesperson, Neda Brown, all services, including consular services – both to U.S. citizens and visa applicants – and port of entry operations at both the Nassau and Freeport International Airports, will continue as normal for the foreseeable future.
Partisan gridlock in Washington D.C. has triggered a partial shutdown of the U.S. Government, with Republicans and Democrats failing to agree a deal to keep federal agencies funded past a midnight deadline.
With no budget, the U.S. Government will have no choice but to send hundreds of thousands of federal workers on unpaid leave, affecting agencies as varied as the justice department and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
