Two men are expected to be arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court today at noon for the murder of Bahamas Information Services (BIS) Deputy Director Latore Mackey.
Mackey, who also served as Prime Minister Perry Christie’s press secretary, was gunned down last Monday morning as he sat in his government issued vehicle through White Road.
The 37-year-old received a bullet to the neck.
A day after the murder, police announced that four men were arrested in connection with the crime.
Police said that between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. last Tuesday, officers took into custody a 24-year-old man from Palmetto Avenue; a 22-year-old man Young Close; a 20-year-old man of Bimini Avenue and an 18-year-old man of Young Close for questioning in reference to Mackey’s murder.
Police Superintendent Stephen Dean said after further investigations, two men will be formally charged for the crime.
“We have an 18-year-old from Cordeaux Avenue who will be appearing in court, along with a 22-year-old of Young Close,” he said. “Both of them will appear in court at noon (Monday) to be formally charged for the murder.
Mackey was attached to the Office of the Prime Minister and was responsible for providing the press with details of Prime Minister Perry Christie’s speaking engagements, appearances and disseminating his speeches and other material for publication.
