Police yesterday arrested a male suspect in connection with one of the country’s most recent murders.
According to Head of the Central Detective Unit, Superintendent Paul Rolle, the Chippingham resident was picked up around 4:oop.m. Sunday, only two days after the shooting death of 21-year-old Timothy Rolle.
Detectives found the Rockcrusher resident with a single gunshot wound to his head after 11:15p.m. Friday night.
Authorities said they received a report that a man was shot on Myrton Avenue off Farrington Road.
When officers arrived on the scene, they met Rolle’s lifeless body.
EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
One of Rolle’s family members said the father of one had just left home when someone he knew picked him up in a car.
The family member, who wished not to be identified, insisted the police look for that person.
Only minutes after Rolle’s shooting death, police were told of a man who turned up to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers soon found out that the victim had been shot in the thigh area.
Sources have since identified the man as Mario Saunders, believed to be in his mid-thirties and the father of a three-year-old boy.
According to police, details regarding where this latest incident occurred remain sketchy but sources told us Saunders was shot in the Yellow Elder Gardens area.
He died in hospital around 6:00 a.m. Saturday, pushing the homicide count to 95 so far this year.
These latest slayings follow the double murder of 34-year-old Vera Berry and 14-year-old Indiana Forbes of Woodes Alley.
The two were shot multiple times after a suspect(s) entered their apartment early Wednesday morning.
Several days earlier, 28-year-old Lamar Roberts was killed in the Pinewood Gardens area.
Police are actively investigating these incidents and are again appealing to anyone with information to call 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands).
