Bahamasair, the national flag carrier is advising the public of a smoke related incident which took place at its Coral Harbour Road head office yesterday morning.
In a statement, the airline said staff initially complaining of a strong smoke scent, prompted the immediate evacuation of the building.
Police fire services were contacted and responded immediately.
The Company said at no time were staff members in any danger, as they were asked to evacuate right away.
According to Managing Director, Tracy Cooper, initial assessments indicated a power surge, resulting in an electrical shortage in the condenser/blower of the air conditioning system.
That caused smoke being pulled into the building and giving the impression of a fire.
As a result of the incident, Bahamasair released all head office personnel for the remainder of the day to ensure all health and safety precautions were taken.
They were asked to report to work this morning – that is, pending any unforeseen developments.
Meantime, Bahamasair advised the public that the airline was still fully functional as this incident in no way impacted their schedule.
The company thanked the police fire services and the Royal Bahamas Police Force for their quick response.
