A 30-year-old male resident of South Beach maintained his innocence during his murder arraignment yesterday at the Magistrate’s Court Complex on South and Nassau Streets.
Terez Bethel is accused of the May 23, 2014 murder of Andrew Woods.
Woods was gunned down in front of a convenience store on Lightbourne Avenue of Farrington Road.
Although not required to plea to the charge, Bethel continuously maintained his innocence, and also told Magistrate Andrew Forbes that he was in court for another matter when the police came and locked him up for murder.
He also told the magistrate that he was beaten by police and that his ribs were hurting.
Magistrate Forbes ordered that the accused receive some medical attention.
Regarding his innocence, the magistrate told Bethel, who was not represented by an attorney, that had to be determined at the trial.
Bethel was denied bail.
The matter has now been adjourned to August 12 where a Voluntary Bill of Indictment is expected to be presented to fast track the matter to the Supreme Court.
