After three weeks of trial, a guilty verdict was handed down to 28-year-old Rashid Dean.
Dean was convicted by a four man-eight woman jury for the August 14, 2011 murder of his ex-girlfriend Oneika Johnson.
Johnson was stabbed to death while on her job at Club Med in San Salvador.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Darnell Dorsette called several witnesses including the convict’s cousin, who recalled him telling her that he would kill Johnson and her new boyfriend, who was also an employee of Club Med.
She added that he later changed his mind.
Another witness recalled seeing Dean walking along the beach with a stained white T-shirt.
The doors of his van, according to a separate witness had the victim’s blood on it.
Johnson’s boyfriend Justin Benson also took the stand and gave account of how he the couple became more than friends a month or so after she and Dean had broken up.
All three worked at the same hotel.
Johnson’s murder was the 90th for the year 2011.
Outside the courtroom yesterday evening, shortly after the verdict was given, Johnson’s mother could be heard outside crying saying that her baby can now “get peace.”
Dean hung his head, avoiding cameras, as he was escorted in the police vehicle.
