Deputy Commissioner of Police Leamond Deleveaux has confirmed that the police have begun a
probe into irregularities at the Public Parks and Beaches Authority for the period leading up to
the 2021 elections.
The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that the investigation is not targeting anyone in
particular. However, he also confirmed that Free National Movement Deputy Leader Shanendon
Cartwright along with other individuals was questioned.
Cartwright is the former Executive Director of the authority during the Minnis administration.
According to DC Deleveaux the investigation should be complete within a matter of weeks. He
declined to share any further details regarding the investigation.
Since coming to office in September of 2021, the Davis administration has raised alarm over
contracts issued without going to tender by the authority during the period leading up to the
general elections.
Alfred Sears former Minister of Works and Utilities with responsibility for the authority, said in
the House of Parliament that he was informed by public servants that there were contracts issued
by the authority shortly before the 2021 election without approval from the board.
Also, McKell Bonaby the MP for Mount Moriah and current Chairman of the Bahamas Public
Parks and Public Beaches Authority is on record in Parliament saying that he was shocked over
irregularities regarding contracts issued by the authority under the Minnis administration.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cartwright has on multiple occasions defended his time as chairman of the
authority and has rejected any accusation of wrongdoing under his watch.
