BPL Restores Power After “Rough Weather”

Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) officials have advised residents in New Providence that crews have completed repairs to several areas that were affected by severe weather yesterday morning.

The company saying at 4:38 a.m. on Tuesday morning severe weather disrupted one of BPL’s feed and was responsible for outages in a number of areas including; Tropical Gardens, West Winds, Old Fort Bay, Westridge (North and South), Killarney Shores, Orange Hill, Love Beach Compass Point, Bahamia West, Tusculum, Maycock Street, Yamacraw Shores, Golden Isles Road, Golden Meadows, Cowpen Road, Royal Palm Gardens and South Ocean Blvd.

By midday all affected areas were restored with the exception Royal Palm Gardens.

Last month, the company revealed the island-wide outages that plagued New Providence late last year stemmed from widespread equipment failures at the Clifton Pier Power Station.

The company reported on the findings of its investigation into two island-wide outages, and another major outage that occurred between November 29 and December 4 last year.

The memo included assurances that the overhaul and maintenance of generators at both Clifton and Blue Hills power stations will be completed ahead of the summer peak season.

At the Clifton station, three generators broke down during the scheduled maintenance of one of the station’s largest generators.

The report stated that the reduced output from the Clifton Pier Power Station placed extreme pressure on transmission cables out of Blue Hills Power Station to the Big Pond Substation, which led to a major cable fault and the resulting outages.

BPL advises customers who may experience a loss of power to contact BPL’s emergency number at 302-1800.
